My name is Maile and I have a 7 year old!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Today is Max’s seventh birthday!
I can’t believe it.  SEVEN.  That is just crazy.  He’s growing up so fast.
He’s actually cognizant of his birthday this year!!  So cool.  Today after work I’ll get his “seven balloon” blown up.  And he’s going to have some treats at school.
Not much in the way of gifts this year.  Odds [...]

Writer’s Block

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I rarely get writer’s block.  Sometimes I get stuck on deciding WHAT to write about, because I’m not feeling passionate about anything at the moment.  But if I have a designated topic, even if I’m not passionate about it, I usually don’t have a problem once I get going.  I’m not saying I never get [...]

Sunday, the fun day

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Well, for someone with a bank account balance still in the negative thousands (I hate PayPal) I’m in quite a good mood.  Last week started off so rough but ended very nicely.
I was really happy with the way my latest theater article turned out.  Couldn’t have picked a better fellow for my first “Spotlight On” [...]

Hanging with the Maxford

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Tonight I’m spending the evening alone with Max.  It’s been lovely.  I got him a balloon, a quesadilla, and a cinnamon roll.  And Play Doh.  He’s been happy as a clam.
He’s getting excited for his birthday.  This is a big deal - it’s the first year he’s had any cognizance of his big day coming [...]

I haven’t been able to post pictures lately.  My work computer doesn’t seem to want to do it.  Kind of annoying.
I probably shouldn’t use my work computer for anything important at all lately.  Last week, I was happily working on a possible Examiner.com article, and I clicked on a link to see some pictures from [...]

Not “cute”

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

WHY can’t I stop biting my cuticles???  It is a disgusting habit and I just can’t stop!  I get the fake nails so I can’t bite my real ones, then I just bite all around them.
Look away, I’m hideous!
I covered for my coworker today and recalled anew just how awful his job is.  He is [...]

The fog is lifting

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Okay, I think I’m less grumpusy than I have been lately.  I do have these ups and downs.
Max did the cutest stinking thing last night.  He laboriously gathered all the chairs in our house and arranged them all in a circle in the middle of the room, to imitate the formation of his “social group” [...]

“Max is able to combine 20 noun-verb tacts such as ‘boy swinging.’”
“Max is able to read his first name when shown to him and is currently working on identifying his last name.”
“Max can currently hold a large marker with the tripod grasp when physically prompted to do so.”
“Max loves to gain attention and is able [...]

Baseball

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Max went to a baseball game yesterday with a couple kids from school and a couple of his teachers/hab workers.  They said he did great.
We’re shocked.  I’m quite certain we wouldn’t be able to get Max to last at a baseball game, or anywhere else he has to remain seated, for more than five minutes.
Why [...]

Waves

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Had one of those lovely stress dreams about school.  I was in an English class I hadn’t been to in weeks.  I couldn’t even remember where I sat.  When another student (”played” by my coworker, Daniel) showed me, I was annoyed that the desk was wobbly.
Before the teacher came in I saw everyone else taking [...]
